Links to Veneto Wine
Our connection to the Veneto region in general, and to Verona in particular, is strong. Verona is much older than Rome. Its viniculture goes back thousands of years and has produced some interesting methods of winemaking typical to this area such as the ripasso method which is used in making Amarone and Valpolicella. On this page we will provide links to smaller wine makers whose wines have won awards either in Italy or abroad so that you can get to know a little bit more about the wine of this region, from which comes also, the crystal of the Bottega del Vino.
Should you be interested in learning more about the remarkable wines of this beautiful region, or are curious about Italian wines in general, we highly recommend "Vino Italiano: The Regional Wines of Italy" by Joseph Bastianich and David Lynch. This is an extremely well written and fun to read survey of Italian wines. This authoritative guide to Italian wines is available for purchase here from Amazon.com.
Zamuner Brut and Brut Riserva
While many Italian producers use the “metodo classico” to produce sparkling wines, almost all of them are using 80% to 100% Chardonnay grapes to produce a flowery, fruity, aperitif. Almost alone among Italian producers, Mr. Zamuner uses a majority of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier to produce extremely high quality sparkling wines with a complexity and finish which would normally be expected only in sparkling wines from France. All of Mr. Zamuner’s sparkling wines are vintaged, at least 6 years, all are “millesime” meaning that all of the grapes used in each bottle came from the same year’s harvest and all of the grapes used come from his estate located in Sona, about halfway between Verona and the Lake of Garda. Combining this care of grape selection with painstaking devotion to all details of the “metodo classico”, quite simply, Zamuner produces a sparkling wine comparable to many of the world’s fine sparkling wine. We discovered this wine several years ago and have enjoyed from the beginning to the end of countless meals because it has the complexity and finish to hold up through many complete meals and is utterly refreshing.
